Why does the game have three names?

  • Klondike — the historical name the game received during the gold rush in Alaska.
  • Patience — a common term in British English for single-player card games.
  • Solitaire — the name that became massively widespread after the game was included in the Windows operating system.
  • It’s important to note that “Solitaire” is a general name for single-player card patience games.

To move all cards to the four foundation piles. Each pile must start with an Ace and end with a King, built up in ascending order (from Ace to King) within a single suit.

The playing field consists of several areas:

  1. The Tableau: 7 columns where cards are partially face up.
  2. The Stock: A pile of face-down cards that can be drawn from.
  3. The Foundation Piles: 4 cells in the upper right corner, intended for building suits.
  • In the tableau, you can move cards by building descending sequences (from King to Two), where cards alternate in color.
  • If you empty a column, only a King can be placed in that empty space.
  • Cards from the stock can be revealed and, if they fit the rules, moved to the tableau or directly to a foundation pile.
  • A card placed on a foundation pile cannot be returned to the tableau.
  • As soon as an Ace is revealed, it can be moved to a foundation.
  • Then, cards of the same suit can be placed on it sequentially in ascending order: Two, Three, and so on up to the King.
  • When all four foundation piles are built from Ace to King — you win!
  • If all possible moves are exhausted and the stock cards run out, the game is considered lost. You can start a new one.
